Ruri East sub location has farming as one of main economic activities taking place. Most residents are small scale farmers with maize and sorghum as their main crops grown. Cotton is the main cash crop being grown in the area and a few people have also done sun flower farming in collaboration with the Kenya seed company. Cotton and sun flower have ready markets and this has motivated more farmers to engage in the activity.

Cereal farming(maize, sorghum and beans) for household consumption and commercial use.
Farmer managed natural regeneration. The land has been left aside for trees that have grown naturally and are being taken care of of through pruning. livestock are also left to graze o the same piece of land.
Cash crop farming (sun flower) for commercial purposes.
Livestock keeping.

Planning to engage in dairy farming for milk production as an income generating activity.
