Short description of your place and practices
The land in Kiambu County, Kenya is quite uneven and stretches to the Kiu River. However, it has been well-terraced and the soil is a combination of murram and red soil. To prevent soil erosion, I have taken measures such as digging trenches, planting trees, building small gabions made of sticks and stones, and planting grass. The soil has been improved through intensive mulching with dry leaves collected from the compound. To further improve the soil texture, I use manure from the goats and chicken droppings that I keep within the compound.
Farm and farming system
Details of the farming system
This is a semi-urban piece of land with a farm that is used to provide sustenance for my family and at the same time produce cash crops such as vegetables, fruits, and cereals.
What is your dream for the future of your farm and/or your location in general?
My dream is to create a microclimate that can sustain crops, and trees and improve the landscape.
