Summary description of agroecological practice

Fish farming by supporting biodiversity and land adaptation to climate change.

Type of agroecological practice

1. Floods and soil erosion control
2. Multipurpose agroforestry
3. Boosting food security and income

Implementing the practice

1. I save water that runs off during rainy seasons into a dam that I dug to reduce on flooding and soil erosion. The saved water is then filtered before it is released to the fish ponds.
2. I use organic feeds to feed the fish. A combination of food wastes and crop residues is used to feed them. The fish pond water is also used on crops farms to boost the soil health. This I do when cleaning the ponds.
3. Through the sales of my fish, I get to earn some good income locally and it also provides my household with food.

Why you use and what you expect from this practice?

1. Improved health through good nutrition and food security.
2. Increased income
3. It conserves the environment
