Type of agroecological practice
1. Mulching
2. Use of organic pesticides
3. Application of organic manure
4. Economic diversification
5. Health and diets
Implementing the practice
I only apply organic measures in controlling pests and maintainig soil fertility. For instance, I use ash as a pesticide. I also apply livestock (poultry) wastes as manure and practice mulching to improve on soil fertility on the garden.
This practice enables me to acces healthy foods for my household and sell to the community healthy vegetables too.
The production costs are low.
There is ready market, hence it generates income well. I get consumers who come to the farm and others I meet at the market centre.
Why you use and what you expect from this practice?
1. No synthetic inputs applied hence healthy food production
2. It is cost effective
3. Generates quick income
4. A sustainable measure in terms of food security
I expect to be food secure and self-reliant through the economic benefits it generates to me.
