Description sommaire de la pratique agroécologique

What are the impacts and benefits of Agroecology in environmental, social and economic terms? Is it possible to build indicators in Agroecology? Providing answers to these and other questions about how to measure the impact of Agroecology is one of the objectives of the AGROECOLOGY IN LATIN AMERICA project, developed by a network of 10 organizations coordinated by Cepagro (NGO from southern Brazil) and in partnership with the University of Britsh Columbia and the Inter-American Foundation. This network of organizations have been collecting data from 255 farming families in seven latin american countries
in order to build agroecology indicators. By 2025, the goal is to reach 450 farming families.

Type de pratique agroécologique

Community-based research in Agroecology

Mise en œuvre de la pratique

The project uses LITEfarm (litefarm.org), a digital tool co-created by UBC, agroecological organizations and farmers. LITEfarm both helps
farmers in the management of their farms and embases research in agroecology.

The project is collecting and analysing environmental, social and economic data from farming families, who record in litefarm information related to:
- agroecological practices
- agrobiodiversity
- environmental resources
- Commercialization
The data is then analyzed by teams from the organizations and UBC, making the reality of family and peasant farming in the territories more understandable, as well as demands for technical assistance.
