Privacy Policy
How One Million Voices collects, uses, and protects your data.
Last updated: March 3, 2026
One Million Voices of Agroecology is a free/libre software and Creative Commons project that exists to share agroecological knowledge generated by communities. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how you control your data while participating in this commons.
Our commitments
- One Million Voices is community-run free software (GPLv3 source code) and public user content is shared under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0.
- We do not sell, rent, or transfer your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
- We minimize data collection and keep only what is needed to run the service safely and reliably.
- We avoid third-party trackers. Any essential providers we use must follow this policy and applicable privacy laws.
Data we collect
- Account data: email, name, and a password hash so you can sign in and manage your profile.
- Community contributions: places, descriptions, tags, comments, photos, documents, and geolocation data that you choose to publish.
- Permissions you grant: location and camera/photo access in the mobile app, only when you explicitly allow access to submit contributions.
- Technical logs: basic diagnostics (requested pages, device type, timestamps, and errors) used for security and reliability.
How we use data
- Operate the platform, authenticate accounts, and show published contributions.
- Moderate abusive content, protect the community, and keep the service secure.
- Send service messages you request (for example password recovery and account-related notices).
- Improve software quality through aggregated diagnostics and error tracking.
How we share data
- Public contributions: content you publish is publicly visible while it remains on the platform and is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
- Personal data: not sold or traded. Shared only with essential providers (hosting, storage, and email delivery) under confidentiality and security obligations.
- Legal and safety cases: we may disclose data when required by law or to prevent abuse and protect users and infrastructure.
Cookies and local storage
We use minimal cookies/local storage to keep sessions active, remember language preferences, and protect against fraud. Disabling cookies may break some features.
Retention
Account data is kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal account data and published contributions from our active systems, with backups expiring according to normal retention cycles.
Delete your personal data
You can request deletion of your account data and contributions at any time:
- On the website: sign in, open your profile, and use the delete option.
- On the mobile app: open the main menu and request account deletion.
After deletion, data already reused by third parties under the content license may persist outside our platform.
International transfers and security
Data may be processed in Brazil and in other regions where infrastructure providers operate. We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Children
This service is intended for people aged 16 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
Changes
We may update this policy when features or legal requirements change. Updates are published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
