Summary description of agroecological practice

Food production in agroforestry systems focus on shiitake mushroom cultivation in logs

Type of agroecological practice

Agroforestry- Food production in a system that reproduces the principles of the forest.

Implementing the practice

We cultivate a consortium of species according to the objective of each agroforestry plot, especially fruit trees such as orange, lemon, avocado and yerba mate. Between the rows of these trees, we grow various vegetables (lettuce, garlic, carrots, etc.), herbs, medicinal plants and flowers. The wood from the trees is important because we use it for the production of shiitake mushrooms, our main product.

Why you use and what you expect from this practice?

Production of nutritious, clean food that is good for people and the entire ecosystem. Mitigating the climate crisis we are experiencing is urgent.

Details

Agroforestry is an agriculture of processes and not of inputs, therefore, we created an intelligent system and the use of external inputs decreases over time, the use of pesticides does not enter at any time in the entire production chain.
