Uptake motivation

Climate change is impacting agriculture productivity in Uganda. Smallholder farmers, who supply 80% of the produce in the country, are among the most vulnerable to its effect. Agroforestry can offer smallholder farmers a way to better absorb climate shocks and suitably increase crop yield and income. Yet public and private investment into agriculture remains insufficient, due to the high transaction costs and risks associated with the sector. Coupled with lack of information, unaffordable financial services, and limited resources to implement Agroforestry systems limit smallholder farmers in Uganda from adapting Agroforestry systems. This motivated us to adopt the technology to reverse climate change effects.
