General performance
Details
Indeed through our measurements the organic soil carbon has been restored, jobs created and crop yield increase has been recorded
Unintended positive side effects of practice
Details
The positive effects for agroforestry implementation are known and hence the main goal and intention for agroforestry is predetermined
Unintended negative side effect of practice
Details
Not at all instead it reduces the use of pesticides and other agrochemical use, enhances micro climate hence improves on the environment for positive ecological interactions
Knowledge and skills required for practice
Details
No rocket science is needed once we train farmers on how to implement the practice, they are able to easily grasp and implement the technology
Labour required for practice
Cost associated with practice
Details
Yes some costs are incured in purchasing good quality seedlings for nursery establishment however after planting the costs associated with garden maintenance are minimal when compared to the traditional method
Does it work in degraded environments?
Details
We measure our ecological impact in three stages; when local microclimate is improved, the local microclimate improves, the ecological biodiversity is enhanced and fortified against collapse, and there is a global impact from capturing carbon to the reversal of climate change in the long term. The local environment changes within a few years, biodiversity increases and future desertification is prevented or even reversed where it has already started.
Does it help restore land?
Details
So far ideally we implement our technologically on formally degraded lands and hence we have been able to restore the marginal degraded lands into productive and profitable lands through contral of soil erosion, improvement of soil fertility and crop yield
Climate change vulnerability effects
Details
Agroforestry helps to reduce erosion, increase soil organic carbon sequestration and trap nutrients
Time requirements
Details
Unlike convectional practice's our technology involves growing trees and cover crops which helps to smother weeds hence reduction in labour costs for manual weeding , spraying with pesticides as manure is naturally generated from falling litter and watering of crops during the dry season as the moisture is retained in the ground.
